Keith is not well known to the general public, but among professional players he is revered as an electronics genius who has spent more than thirty years devising high-tech equipment-computers, video cameras, and communication devices-to beat the casinos. Blackjack was his initial target, and always remained his prime target. His first blackjack computer, which he completed in 1972, weighed fifteen pounds. Over the years, as computer chip technology developed, his computers became smaller, faster, and lighter. By the mid-1970s, he had a device that weighed only a few ounces that could play perfect strategy based on the exact cards remaining to be dealt. If it were up to Keith, his son Marty's name would be right along his in the Blackjack Hall of Fame, as the two have worked as partners since Marty was a teenager. For thirty years they have jointly created ever-more-clever hidden devices to beat the casinos, trained teams of players in their use, and have personally gone into the casinos to get the money. Keith and Marty may, in fact, have literally invented the concept of computer "networking," as they were wiring computer-equipped players together at casino blackjack tables thirty years ago in their efforts to beat the games. When Nevada outlawed devices in 1985, it was specifically as a result of a Taft device found on Keith's brother, Ted-a miniature video camera built into Ted's belt buckle that could relay an image of the dealer's hole card as it was being dealt to a satellite receiving dish mounted in a pickup truck in the parking lot, where an accomplice read the video image, then signaled Ted at the table with the information he needed to play his hand. Stanford Wong self-published his first book, Professional Blackjack, in 1975. It was later published by the Gambler's Book Club in Las Vegas, then revised and expanded numerous times and published by Wong's own company, Pi Yee Press.

Wong is widely regarded as one of the sharpest analysts of systems and methods for beating the casinos. In Professional Blackjack, he described a never-before-revealed table-hopping style of playing shoe games, a method of play now known as wonging. Professional Blackjack had a profound impact on serious players because it provided card counters with an easy yet powerful method for attacking the abundant four-deck shoe games that had taken over Las Vegas. Many pros still think of card-counting opportunities as "pre-Wong" and "post-Wong."

In his second book, Blackjack in Asia-a book priced at $2,000 and one of the rarest gambling books sought by collectors today - Wong discusses the unique blackjack games he had discovered in Asian casinos as a professional player, along with the optimum strategies he had devised for beating them. The book also included underground advice for exchanging currencies in these countries on the black market, as well as an account of his own hassles with customs officials when he attempted to leave the Philippines with his winnings. Of all of Wong's books, this is my personal favorite, as it reveals more of his anti-establishment personality than any of his later books.

In 1980, Wong published Winning Without Counting, priced at $200, and again, on a personal note, this is my second favorite book by Wong (and another collector's item if you can find one). He not only discusses many hole card techniques that had never before been mentioned in print-s-front-loading, spooking, and warp play-but he also delved into many clearly illegal methods of getting an edge over the house, including various techniques of bet-capping, card switching, card mucking, etc. He was widely criticized by those in the casino industry for the amusing way in which he discussed and analyzed such techniques, but anyone with half a brain could see that he was merely informing players with a tongue-in-cheek sense of humor.

Wong subsequently published Tournament Blackjack (1987), Basic Blackjack (1992), Casino Tournament Strategy (1992), Blackjack Secrets (1993), and since 1979 has published various newsletters including Current Blackjack News, aimed at serious and professional players.

Max is the author of Comp City, first published in 1994, with an expanded second edition published in 2002. In this groundbreaking book, Max exposed techniques even non-counting players could use to get an advantage over the casinos by exploiting weaknesses in the casinos' comp systems. Max's inside information came from his years of experience in the industry as a dealer, pit boss, and casino manager. Max still does consulting work for the Barona Casino in California.

What is the rake?

There are many things that make poker the best game to play - more skill, more fun - but the key advantage is that you are up against the other players around the table and, over time, the best players will win as the luck evens out and the skill takes over. Unlike blackjack and the other table games, there's no house edge to give the casino operator a guaranteed percentage. You take your winnings out of the pockets of those you beat. From the point of view of the casino, this is bad news. Here it is with its capital tied up in bricks and mortar and its outgoings burdened with a staff of dealers, and it has no edge to help cover its costs. So, it charges the players for the right to sit down and play the game. This fee is called the "rake" because the dealer physically rakes in chips at the end of each hand to cover the fee. The amount varies. Sometimes, in the more exclusive rooms, it can be as high as 10% per hand, but it's usually capped and falls to very small percentages when big bets are made.

The fact that you play online does not change the economics of the casino's operation. There may only be one small building and very few staff, but it costs money to install and maintain the software. Servers have to be paid for to host the games. So the casino must still cover its costs when offering a poker room. The advantage is that the costs of virtual operation are significantly less than the real world costs and so the rake percentage is usually lower and capped. On a $50 pot, the rake might be 5% but on a $500 pot it might be 0.5%. So high stakes or no-limit players might pay only a small rake. Whereas small pot players could pay quite high fees except that most online casinos cap the amount per hand at no more than a sum between $3 and $5. Nevertheless, the amount of the rake paid over a month might be substantial for regular players.

If you play online, the rakeback system has been introduced to allow the casinos to compete against each other for players. The idea is simple. Every month, your account is credited with a percentage of the total rake you have paid. That reduces the casino's margin but encourages regular players to stay loyal and to play for longer periods of time - remember online players go through more hands per hour than real world players. The refund makes a big difference and often represents the chance for the regular players to turn from losing to winning. If you only play for small pots, you are playing against the others around the table and the house fees. With the rakeback offering as much as a 40% refund, this can quickly mount up, e.g. if you played 1,000 pots at a capped fee of $3, you will recover $1,200 at the end of the month. This is "free money" for you to play with at the start of the next month and a very good reason for signing up for this facility.

Here is one of the better entries from the recent Peugeot Design Competition that seems not only practical, but cheap to manufacture and solves many of the problems associated with modern car design. Its scissor-like frame contracts to accommodate tight parking spaces or narrow lanes and the wheels work much like the recent NASA concept car, allowing it to drive sideways or do a 360 on its wheelbase.The car also solves the problem of having a talkative passenger distracting you from driving (or just generally doing your head in) by placing them in a separate pod. Ahâ¦just imagine, no more inane conversations, getting to play music that you like and taking a route of your choosing. Excellent selling points, me thinks.The car would run on electricity; though I canât imagine where the batteries, or the engine for that matter, would be stored. In the tails of the pods, maybe?The simple nature of the design should allow for easy manufacture and its flexibility is really something car makers should pay attention to. I canât see why something similar to this couldnât make it onto the road. It may be too radical for mass-production just yet, but should provide plenty of inspiration for all you street-rodders out there.

Further, the pending patent for MAGLEV driveline will make us wait to see it getting into production.

New Lamborghini Concept Car Model âGallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboniâ

This new limited edition Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni marks a return to rear-wheel drive for the first time since the Diablo. It didnât happen with the Murcielago LP 670-4 SV, but it"s happening now with the Gallardo. Just 250 units of the car will be built in honour of the retiring chief test driver, Valentino Balboni, who has been with the company for over 42 years. The LP 550-2 suggests that it produces about 10 bhp less than the LP 560-4, but interestingly, it"s also 120 kg lighter. Lamborghini suggest a 0-96 kph time of just 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 320 kph. These numbers are little slower than the LP560-4, but donât suggest that it"s any less exhilarating a drive. In fact, given that it was designed conceived with inputs from Balboni itself, it"s probably going to be the most fun Lambo in production today. For this, Lamborghini has relocated the transmission to the rear axle, resulting in a 43-57% front-rear weight distribution to maximise controlled oversteer. New springs, dampers, stabilisers, tyres and even the aerodynamics were also adjusted to help change the power flow. A 45% limited slip diff was redeveloped for the rear-axle and adjustments were made to the ESP system. The CORSA program allows the LP550-2 to stretch it"s power-sliding legs a bit more than the standard program.

The Audi ASQ concept is an advanced futuristic design created by Hongik University Transport Design graduate Juyoung Kim. The ASQ has been designed for the year 2040 and a world where the worst-case global warming predictions have materialized and the sea levels have risen dramatically due to the melting of the polar ice caps.

The Audi ASQ concept is equipped to deal with the rise in water levels due to its ability to travel both on land and water. It even has submersible capabilities. On land the ASQ uses an advanced form of Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system which features four independent electric motors, one for each wheel. The front wheels are spherical in shape which helps to increase maneuverability. Once in the water the ASQ switches over to an aquatic version of the quattro drive system which uses water jet propulsion - similar to a jetski. Water jets positioned in the front, rear and sides mean the ASQ could move in any direction once underwater.

The interior of the Audi ASQ concept features three seats - instead of a more conventional four seat layout - in order to increase the overall space for the occupants. The feeling of space is however further enhanced through the use of a 100% transparent upper section of the cabin which incorporates a single piece windscreen, roof, and rear window and frameless side windows. The floor of the ASQ also features transparent panels to allow the occupants to see into the water below.

Powering the Audi ASQ is a hydrogen fueled engine which acts as a electrical generator. The electricity is used to supply power to batteries which in turn provide power to the four electric motors.

The problem is the limited space for photovoltaic panels on a car"s roof. The Helios overcomes that limitation by acting like a frill-neck lizard. When stationary, the off-road vehicle can unfurl a large set of photovoltaic cells to produce enough energy to run the car, with excess energy for home power. The Helios won Best Use of Technology category at the Interior Motives Design Awards 2008.

Honda Motors has finally launched the highly awaited Jazz at function in New Delhi on Wednesday. Jazz is the first small car offered by Honda Motors for the small car market in India. So far Honda marketed only the mid-size cars City, Civic, Accord, and compact SUV CR-V in India.

Honda Jazz started its journey in 2001 in the United States and Japan as the Fit. Honda has gives the car an Indian identity by naming it Jazz and an India specific engine. The new hatchback is based on the highly successful new Honda City sedan. Honda Jazz is powered by the 1.2 litre SOHC i-VTEC engine which delivers 89 bhp power and 110 Nm of torque. The new engine is mated to a responsive 5-speed manual transmission which gives precise shifts. A progressive clutch helps complete the trio of three biggest advantages on a Jazz. Interestingly, the engine on Jazz is the same as the 1.5 litre i-VTEC engine fitted in new Honda City which helped Honda gain a reputation for performance and fuel economy.

The engine has a variable valve timing system (VVT) which gives seamless power output. The engine can deliver 16.1 km/l fuel economy, as per the certification by Automotive Research Association of India. The engine is tuned to meet Euro IV emission norms which will come into effect from next year. It also has eco-friendly angle feature as the engine is made E-10 compatible, which allows usage of bio-fuels.

Honda Jazz is sold on three variant levels - the base model, Mode and Active. The prices for Jazz start with Rs 6.98 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The mid-range Mode features body side mouldings, corner protectors to prevent scratches, and funky lit garnishes on the side steps. The top end Active, which is the sporty version of Jazz features sport pedals, steering wheel with mounted audio controls, air conditioner with heater, large front fog lamps and a rear spoiler.

The dashboard is loaded with a neat layout of button and switches for various functions. Jazz has borrowed the steering wheel from the new Honda City. The stylish dash is typical of the Honda's with large dials and big knobs. The bright clear markings in the dials on the instrument cluster can be viewed even in the darkness. All the three variants get the unique magic seats that allow versatile usage of the space behind front seats. The magic seats folded up or flip-folded down to create a flat floor get additional storage compartment. Generous legroom and head room for tall adults suggest a spacious interior.

Safety equipments include front SRS airbags, ABS with Brake Assist, Electronic brake pressure distribution and the signature G-Con construction body. Jazz prices start from Rs 6.98 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Jazz Mode is cost Rs 30,000 more than the base model and the top end Active comes with a price tag that is Rs 35,000 more than the base model.

Some auto critics also call the Jazz a mini MPV owing to its unique cab forward design and spacious interiors. However, Jazz is pure a five door hatchback with its roots firmly set in the Honda ethics - comfort and performance. Honda achieved the exemplary space in the cabin by fitted the large fuel tank under the front seats.

If you want to get mechanics and people who work on their own cars going in a heated debate, start an argument about whether aftermarket car parts are as good as OEM parts. It may seem like a basic argument, but it is actually fairly convoluted.
Okay, what are OEM parts? "OEM" stands for "original equipment manufacturer". In practical terms, this means the party that made the original part for your car be it the muffler, bumper, clutch or whatever. Isn't this part just the car company selling the car be it Ford, BMW or whomever? Nope. Most car companies outsource much of the car part manufacturing to smaller companies.

This outsourcing is why the bankruptcies of General Motors and Chrysler have such far reaching impacts. Not only does it impact everyone at those companies, but everyone at each independent company that makes parts for GM and Chrysler. If these independent companies lose enough business, they may have to shut down. This is problematic since they also make parts for other brands. This is also why the idea that a Ford is "American made" and a Toyota isn't is mostly hogwash. All the brands are getting a lot of their parts from the same suppliers whether they are in the United States, Canada, Mexico or wherever.

Aftermarket car parts come in two variations. The first is simply a generic form of the OEM part, much like generic pharmaceuticals compared to name brands. The second is an accessory for a car such as cold air intake systems for the engine, racks to carry bikes and so on. There isn't much debate that this second form of aftermarket car parts is fine, but the first variation is the area where contention starts.

OEM parts are almost always more expensive than aftermarket car parts. That being said, the price difference often isn't that large in many cases. This is important because OEM parts are generally better for your car than aftermarket parts. The issue is not the manufacturing process of the aftermarket car supplier, but the simply fact that the OEM part is made using the same molds and manufacturing process of the original part on your car. This means it should fit perfectly whereas the aftermarket part might not be an exact fit.

So, which should you go with? It depends. Aftermarket is definitely the choice when it comes to improving the performance on your car. If you are just looking for a part replacement, OEM parts are going to be slightly better although more expensive. Only you can decide if the price difference makes the aftermarket car parts a better deal.

Finally.
The Mustang won't be using the old Explorer engine anymore. Starting next year.

It is supposed to be getting a version of the 3.7 Liter already in used in other Ford models.
It will make over 275hp. Much closer to the Camaro's 300hp V6.

This should be a really nice car. There is really no need for V8s anymore in our new "2009 over $3 a gallon world".

Fiat said it will start building the 500 and the Panda in Mexico for the US market. (Panda becoming a Jeep) in 2011.
The Alfa Romeo MiTo will be built in the US alongside a small Dodge Hornet based on the same platform.

They also mentioned that the next Sebring (as well as the next Liberty and Caliber) will be based on Fiat's C platform.
The current stunning looking Lancia Delta is based on the same platform.

I think 2011 is a long time. The current 2nd generation Panda came out in 2003. Maybe they mean to say the one will get in 2011 will be a 3rd generation, other wise Jeep will be getting an 8 year old design.

This is it. Crunch time. The 2009 Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram are rolling onto the market like a pair of gigantic craps dice, and the companies tossing them are each betting big on this game. Unfortunately, the rules changed while these dice were in mid-air. Fuel prices skyrocketed, the economy tanked, consumer confidence evaporated, and folks who once chose half-ton pickups more for their Marlboro-Man-image-enhancing qualities than for their towing or hauling capabilities are shopping elsewhere.

Ford claims it sells more of its half-ton pickups to work and commercial customers than its competitors do, and Ford predicts this segment will grow to 45 percent of F-150 sales. Toward that end, the truck's fully boxed chassis is further fortified to provide best-in-class rigidity, payload capacity (up to 3030 pounds), and tow ratings (up to 11,300 pounds). As such, the new F-150 is well positioned to capture contractors migrating down-market out of Super-Dutys to save money and gas (did we mention that a new six-speed automatic, a lighter, more aerodynamic cab, and other tweaks boost fuel economy by 12 percent with the 5.4-liter?).

Ford claims payload and towing numbers like that simply can't be had with a coil-sprung rear axle, so it stuck with leafs but made them longer to smooth the ride and wider with new mounting hardware to improve lateral rigidity and roll control. The ride doesn't quite match Dodge's, but the chassis engineers managed to tune the steering for pleasing heft and remarkable accuracy that had many judges lauding the F-150s for feeling smaller and nimbler than their Dodge counterparts. Lateral grip of 0.70 g for both Fords bested all but the feathery base Dodge and Suzuki, and our rear-drive SXT scored the best stop at 133 feet from 60 mph (the three-ton Lariat needed 144 feet).

Status-conscious contractors will have eight F-150 models from which to choose (including the forthcoming SVT Raptor), which Detroit editor Todd Lassa reckons is "about four too many," adding, "If this Lariat is the third truck from the top, how much of a boudoir must the King Ranch and Platinum interiors be?" Judges praised the low noise levels and interior materials quality, though some found the design cartoonishly macho. Still, handy features like the Tailgate Step, Box Side Step, a stowable bed-extender, and rear seats that fold up with one hand to reveal a broad, flat load floor help tally a strong superiority score.
